Cohen’s Analysis: Davis teamed with Brandon Bass – who were traded for each other in the NBA a few years later – to form one of the best front lines in college basketball in 2005. However, despite 25 and 12 from Bass and 18 and 11 from Davis, LSU couldn’t handle UAB in the opening round of the 2005 tournament in Big Baby’s freshman season.

Set out to become one of the more recognized collegiate players in the nation, Davis dramatically improved the next year and helped lead the Tigers to their first Final Four since 1986. And it was the performance against Texas in the Elite 8 that became a statement game for Davis. He racked up 26 points and nine rebounds and played a big part in limiting the Longhorns’ LaMarcus Aldridge to just four points on 2-of-14 shooting.
