Cohen’s Analysis: Victor Oladipo has never been a point guard in the past, but this week at Summer League, we are learning whether he may have a future at that position. Many NBA greats – past and present – have switched backcourt positions. Russell Westbrook, for instance, was an off-guard at UCLA before transforming into an elite point man in Oklahoma City. The same can be said for Stephen Curry, who transitioned rather easily in Golden State.
It’s still early in the process, but Oladipo has not disappointed in the slightest in his now brief experience as a point guard. In fact, in his first ever game at that spot, Oladipo dished out seven assists.
While it’s very possible he will revert back to his more natural position once the upcoming season tips off in October and be depended on for his scoring potential, for now everyone is rather impressed with his instincts, court vision and willingness to feed others.
