Cohen 8-Ball: Reliving Magical Moments
OrlandoMagic.com’s Josh Cohen describes memorable plays and moments in franchise history.
Dwight Howard accomplished a lot with the Magic. He claimed three consecutive Defensive Player of the Year awards, delivered one of the most spectacular dunk contest performances in NBA history and led Orlando to its second ever NBA Finals appearance.
However, you can certainly argue that Howard’s most sensational achievement came in the Magic’s First Round playoff smashing of the Raptors in 2008.
No, his competition in the paint wasn’t stellar – Andrea Bargnani and Rasho Nesterovic were responsible for trying to contain him – and the Magic were lights out from 3-point distance all series.
But, Howard’s stats were extraordinary. He had three 20-20 performances out of the fives games played and became just the third player in league history to average 22 points, 18 rebounds and three blocks for a single playoff series.
