Cohen 8-Ball: To Keep Or To Trade?

Return to Around the Association Home

Rajon Rondo

Cohen's Analysis (Feb. 3, 2014): It’s really difficult to gauge the direction of the Celtics. Do they want to build around Rondo or are they willing to start from scratch and handpick prospects from the draft? Boston could probably net more draft picks – already have a ton from the Pierce/KG deal with Brooklyn over the next few years – if it dealt Rondo. However, there continues to be speculation that the C’s want to keep Rondo for the long haul and that Rondo wants to remain with the team.

Considering Boston seems bound for a high draft pick anyway this June – with or without their star point guard – perhaps it’s only rational to preserve him and try to extend his contract (scheduled to be a free agent in 2015).
