Cohen 8-Ball: To Keep Or To Trade?

Carmelo Anthony

Cohen's Analysis (Feb. 3, 2014): This continues to be back-and-forth drama. One day you get the impression Anthony will leave New York this summer and the next day that opinion is overturned and him staying seems like the most logical decision.

Like any superstar who is set to become a free agent, ‘Melo is keeping his options open. He clearly wants to see who will have the salary cap space to chase him this summer.

As far as whether the Knicks should trade him, it depends on what other teams would be willing to surrender. If a team was offering a potential top three draft pick this June or an established superstar with many superlative years left in his career, then dealing Anthony should be considered. It’s just hard to imagine a package that attractive would open up by the deadline.
