The Phoenix Suns will receive the Minnesota Timberwolves’ First Round pick in 2014 IF it is outside the top 13. If the Wolves are slotted anywhere between 1 and 13 this year, this pick will become top 12 protected in 2015 and 2016.

HOW IT HAPPENED: It was agreed to as part of the three-team trade involving Wesley Johnson and Robin Lopez in the summer of 2012. Minnesota wanted to shed salary (dump Johnson’s contract), New Orleans wanted to add size (acquire Lopez) and Phoenix figured this draft pick could become valuable down the road.

ANALYSIS: Phoenix’s front office has made some crafty moves over the past two years and it is about to really pay off. Not only do they have an exciting young team that is blossoming very quickly but they also have all these draft picks to help bolster their roster.
