11/8/13 vs. CELTICS
OPPONENT ANALYSIS: By trading Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett in the offseason and by not rushing Rajon Rondo back from his ACL injury, the Celtics have made it clear they are strategizing for the future. What’s peculiar, however, is that Boston is loaded with a few unfavorable contracts. Gerald Wallace, who they acquired in the KG/Pierce deal, and Jeff Green are owed a combined $60 million over the next three seasons and Brandon Bass and Courtney Lee also have time left on their contracts after this year. While they are almost certainly in position to land a high draft pick next June, the C’s are probably not targeting any prospective free agents in the summer.
BEST STORYLINE: A pair of rebuilding franchises suggests an opportunity to watch some of the brightest young talent square off. Orlando’s Victor Oladipo and Boston’s Kelly Olynyk both dazzled in Summer League action in July and are each expected to be key contributors for their respective teams down the road. While Oladipo has been spectacular in his first week of his NBA career (13.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists), Olynyk is still searching for a rhythm (6.8 points, 3.5 rebounds).
