JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Broadcasting Video Intern
Division/Department: Broadcasting
Reports To: Broadcast Services Mgr.
Employee Classification: Exempt
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Position #1 - Broadcast Services Intern
1. Assist Associate Producer/Editor with editing Magic TV Network commercial play reel for each broadcast and coordinate timely delivery of tape with local courier based on WRBWs delivery requirements.
2. Complete tape duplication, web compression and basic editing requests and deliver/distribute upon completion for internal and external departments as assigned by the Broadcast Services Manager.
3. Create compilation reels and miscellaneous cuts editing as assigned by the Broadcast Services Manager.
4. Assist Broadcast Services Manager with Tape Library archival procedures. Responsibilities include: Data entry of library tapes into ScheduALL, bar-coding and labeling tapes, returning tapes to correct storage location, and recycling/degaussing tapes for re-use.
5. Complete published Game Highlight files by re-naming the logged Magic game highlights in the Pictron Database System as assigned by the Broadcast Services Manager.
Position #2 – Producer’s Assistant/Post-Production Intern
1. Digitize, clip-out and log Magic game highlights, B-roll footage, and interview footage using the Pictron Database System as assigned by Production/Operations Manager and Broadcast Services Manager.
2. Assist Magic TV Network Editors & Producers and Midnight Magic Producer for various edited features and promos as assigned by the Broadcast Services Manager.
Responsibilities will include:
- Research and digitize highlights and other footage into the non-linear editing system prior to edit sessions.
- Acquire footage from external resources and general story/information gathering for each project.
- Type, print and distribute talent copy cards, videotape labeling, and other administrative duties as assigned by Staff Producers and Broadcast Services Manager.
- Ship and/or deliver show masters and promo reels, as assigned by Staff Producers and Broadcast Services Manager.
3. Complete tape duplication, web compression and editing requests and deliver/distribute upon completion for internal and external departments as assigned by the Broadcast Services Manager.
4. Assist Broadcast Services Manager with Tape Library archival procedures. Responsibilities include: Data entry of library tapes into ScheduALL, bar-coding and labeling tapes, retuning tapes to correct storage location, and recycling/degaussing tapes for re-use.
Position #3 – Production/Engineering Intern
1. Assist Production/Operations Manager with all studio and field production assignments.
Responsibilities will include:
- Equipment set-up and strike for studio and field production.
- Under guidance of Production/Operations Manager, operate studio and field cameras, when needed.
- Studio and field audio technician assistance.
- General upkeep and organization of studio and field production equipment.
2. Assist department in completing engineering projects for both TV and Radio. Prior engineering experience not required.
3. Assist with completion of published game highlight files by re-naming the logged Magic game highlights in the Pictron Database System as assigned by the Broadcast Services Manager.
4. Assist with completion tape duplication requests and deliver/distribute upon completion for internal and external departments as assigned by the Broadcast Services Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Hours required: 30-40+ hours per week
2. For Production/Engineering position: Good driving record (driving record background check required).
3. Junior, senior or graduate-level college students and recent college graduates. Vocational broadcasting students accepted as well.
4. Video production, journalism, communications or related major or production background preferred.
5. Enthusiasm and flexible schedule a must.
6. Knowledge of basketball preferred.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
8. Considered a plus: working knowledge and experience with:
- BetacamSP and DV video cameras
- Final Cut Pro and/or Avid
- AfterEffects
- Web compression tools
- Studio lighting skills
- Administrative computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).
