2. Will the Players be there?
While we cannot guarantee appearances at every location, we make every attempt to schedule current and former Magic players and coaches to come visit our basketball camps.
3. I see Magic camps are now affiliated with the National Basketball Academy. Who are they?
The Orlando Magic has partnered with The National Basketball Academy, or TNBA, to broaden the scope of youth basketball programs that will be offered going forward. In addition to camps, TNBA is a professional organization that focuses on clinics, tournaments, leagues and training. To learn more about The National Basketball Academy, click here to visit their website or call Jack Lutzeier, TNBA Florida Director, at 407-916-2522.
4. Who are the instructors?
Our accomplished staff is comprised of a wide array of basketball backgrounds. Your child will receive instruction from a combination of the following: college and high school coaches, current and former college players, NBA clinicians, certified referees, personal trainers, semi and professional players and other basketball experts.
5. How are the campers divided during camp?
Campers are placed in groups according to their age, skill level, and experience. This is done to ensure that each child plays with others of a similar ability. Emphasis is placed on improving at one’s own pace while enjoying the excitement of the sport. We will try to accommodate group requests when possible, but cannot guarantee in an effort to keep teams fair and balanced.
6. What about lunch?
Each child will be responsible for bringing his or her own lunch to camp.
7. Do you provide before and after care?
Unfortunately, we do not. Because we rent the camp facilities and do not have full-time access to them, we ask that campers arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before camp begins and that parents pick up their children promptly at the end of the camp day.
8. Do I need to bring anything to camp?
Campers should come dressed in basketball attire (shorts, sneakers, t-shirt). They need not bring basketballs or other equipment as we will have everything they need. Please leave all watches, jewelry and electronics (i.e.: ipods) at home as we cannot be responsible for such items. Campers may of course bring any medication they may need.
9. How about overnight camps?
The Magic’s 2009 overnight camp will be held from June 28th – July 2nd at Warner Southern University! Campers signing up for the overnight camp will receive an email with instructions on what to bring, when to drop off and pick up, etc. Girls and Boys will be housed in separate dorms and a full staff will be in place 24 hours a day. This is the best way to take your camp experience to the next level!
10. Can parents stay and watch during camp?
Of course! Parents are more than welcome to watch their children in action! And don’t forget to attend our weekly awards ceremonies that take place every Friday at 12:30pm!
11. How do I receive my child’s free ticket?
Because the NBA schedule is not released until September, we will have no tangible tickets to hand out at summer camp. However, because we have your contact information from when you registered, we will contact all camp attendees once the schedule is released with instructions on how to redeem their free ticket as well as how to add discounted tickets for family and friends! (Should you not hear from us by mid-October, please call the camp office at 407-916-2681 so we may assist you.)
12. Are scholarships available?
Through the generosity of our players, coaches and corporate sponsors, a limited number of camp scholarships are available. Scholarships are arranged through our Community Relations Department on a case-by-case basis to those families that can demonstrate financial need. Please click here for full information on how to qualify and apply.
