Celtics Moving Rondo, Wolves Dealing Love?

Josh Cohen’s Analysis (Jan. 20, 2014): The longer a team waits the less value they will get in return. Both Rajon Rondo and Kevin Love will be unrestricted free agents in 2015, which suggests that right now is the best time to explore trades. The closer you get to free agency the fewer number of teams there will be interested in trading for non-committal superstars.

Both Boston and Minnesota need to concentrate on this upcoming draft, which is expected to be loaded with many prized prospects. Dealing Rondo and Love, respectively, could reward the Celtics and Timberwolves with surplus draft picks and “inevitably” higher draft position come June.

Also in Rondo’s case, who knows if he will truly be able to return to the same level from prior to his ACL injury. His value currently is sky high, but if he ends the season poorly, the market for him will plummet dramatically heading into the summer.
