Are Blazers Contenders or Pretenders?
Josh Cohen’s Analysis (Jan. 20, 2014): Well, if we are exclusively referring to this season, than pretender is the only rational opinion considering how atypical it is for teams to go from the gutter to champion in one year without making a huge splash over the summer.
Assuming LaMarcus Aldridge doesn’t overturn his recent stance that he wants to stay long term in Portland and with Damian Lillard inevitably going to continue to make improvements, you have to believe the Blazers will be legit contenders as early as next season. However, that will only be the case if Aldridge can sustain this level of play into his 30s, which isn’t ever a guarantee.
