ORLANDO -- The Nets and Heat both came into day two of the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League winless, but the Miami Heat got a notch in the win column Monday, downing the Brooklyn Nets, 93-86, at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. The Heat featured a balanced scoring attack with four players in double figures, led by Scotty Hopson’s 22 and Ian Clark’s 19 points.
The fourth and final game of day two of summer league action proved to be nothing like the contest played before it – in game three, the Celtics defeated the Pistons by 30, the fifth-largest margin of victory in Orlando summer league history. This contest, on the other hand, was back and forth the majority of the way and it wasn’t until the game’s final five minutes that Miami was able to pull away. Both teams shot nearly 50 percent from the floor, but the difference came in the form of turnovers. While both teams were careless with the ball – Miami committed 17 to Brooklyn’s 24 – Miami was able to capitalize with 33 points off the Nets’ miscues.
Despite another strong showing from first round draft pick Mason Plumlee, Jason Kidd suffered his second loss in as many days as an NBA head coach. Plumlee, who recorded a double-double on day one with 10 points and 14 rebounds, hit all eight shots from the field en route to 23 points while pulling down nine boards. Second-year veteran Tyshawn Taylor had a solid game for the losing squad as well, finishing with a game-high 25.
Play resumes in the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League Tuesday morning with Indiana taking on Boston at 11 a.m. The Heat face the Magic in the nightcap at 5 p.m., while the Nets have the day off.
