STAPLES Center, back-to-back recipients of the prestigious Pollstar-CIC Arena of the Year award, has a reputation for excellence unrivaled worldwide while clearly establishing itself as the Sports and Entertainment Center of the World.

Beginning with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's opening night concert on October 17, 1999, over 34 million guests have come to the AEG-owned and operated STAPLES Center to attend a schedule of prestigious concerts, sporting events, family shows and other major attractions unmatched by any arena.

As the home of four professional sports franchises -- the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, and the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks -- STAPLES Center has proven to be a home court advantage for the local teams. The Lakers, who in June 2010, captured their fifth NBA Championship since moving to STAPLES Center (the 16th in franchise history), also capped-off each of their first three seasons in the arena by also winning NBA Championships while the Sparks captured back-to-back WNBA Championships in their first two STAPLES Center campaigns. The Kings and Clippers also set franchise records for attendance and sellouts since moving into their ‘new home.'

STAPLES Center continues to distinguish itself as the host of major, high-profile events of national and international distinction including the 2004 NBA All-Star Game, the 2002 NHL All-Star Game, 2002 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, the 2000 Democratic National Convention, 2009 ISU World Figure Skating Championships, ten GRAMMY Award shows, eight X Games competitions, three WTA Tour Championships, nine Pac 10 Men's Basketball Championship tournaments and the Michael Jackson Public Memorial Service on July 7, 2009. In 2011, STAPLES Center will again host the NBA All-Star game when the leagues mid-season classic returns to Los Angeles.

STAPLES Center's first eleven years have also been marked with performances and special events that brought international stature to Los Angeles' sports & entertainment icon including concerts starring Prince, U2, Garth Brooks Usher, Paul McCartney, Don Henley, Bon Jovi, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Phil Collins, the Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band, Britney Spears, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, Janet Jackson, Jay-Z, Simon & Garfunkel, Van Halen, Dixie Chicks, Counting Crows, John Mayer, Shania Twain, Peter Gabriel, Ricky Martin, Tina Turner, Kanye West, Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, Luis Miguel, Billy Joel, Lionel Ritchie, Reba McEntire, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Faith Hill & Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Rod Stewart, Tool, Shakira, Depeche Mode, Cher, Bette Midler, Lady Gaga, Keith Urban, Mariah Carey, Eurythmics, Googoosh, The Police, Beyonce, Mana, Marco Antonio Solis, and a New Year's Eve spectacular starring The Eagles, Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt; world championship boxing including Lennox Lewis vs. Vitali Klitschko for the World Heavyweight Championship, “ Sugar” Shane Mosley vs. Oscar De La Hoya and Roy Jones, Jr. vs. Julio Gonzalez, “and the first-ever Latin Grammy Awards. In addition, the arena hosted multiple sold-out WWE dates, Michael Flatley's Feet of Flames, Champions on Ice, UFC 39, Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus, Disney on Ice, Walking with Dinosaurs and the Harlem Globetrotters.

Through the activities of STAPLES Center Foundation, the people of Los Angeles have also been touched in a different way. Dedicated to improving the quality of life for the youth in the greater Los Angeles area through grants and educational and recreational programming, the Foundation has placed a special emphasis on contributing to low income neighborhoods surrounding the arena.

More than $10 million has already been pledged to community organizations by STAPLES Center Foundation including $1 million grants to Inner-City Arts (a public private partnership non-profit organization that provides much needed arts education for downtown elementary and middle school students)and the Walt Disney Concert Hall, home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic along with a recent $750,000 commitment to A Better LA, an organization founded by Pete Carroll and dedicated to supporting local communities in their goal to reduce gang violence by empowering change in South Los Angeles.

STAPLES Center has also “adopted” Tenth Street Elementary School located in the heart of the Pico-Union section of downtown Los Angeles. Together, the staffs of the arena and the school have developed a groundbreaking public-private educational partnership benefiting the school in the form of scholarships, teacher / student incentivizing and an in-school volunteer program in which STAPLES Center's executives regularly participate.

STAPLES Center has been designed with the fans of Los Angeles in mind. Guests who attend events are treated to the finest entertainment experience imaginable. The arena has over 1,000 Panasonic flat panel televisions and (as part of a specially designed $1.5 million facility sound system) 675 separate speakers outside of the seating area, so fans never miss any of the sights or sounds of a STAPLES Center event. Also featured is a $2 million specialty lighting package and other state-of-the-art industry amenities. This season, a new $10 million center-hung video display and scoreboard specially designed for STAPLES Center by Panasonic was unveiled for the start of the NBA and NHL seasons.

Along STAPLES Center's five concourses are 23 refreshment stands offering a variety of dining choices including the City View Grill, a one-of-a-kind outdoor dining experience with a spectacular view of L.A. LIVE and of the downtown Los Angeles skyline. The TEAM LA Store located on the main concourse is a retail store featuring official merchandise from the teams and events that call STAPLES Center home. Finally, the arena provides 55 public restrooms including three “family” restrooms.

Perhaps the greatest emphasis throughout STAPLES Center's development has been the recruitment and training of its guest services staff. The STAPLES Center experience is second-to-none from the entertainment environment to the staff's commitment to making every guest's visit a memorable one. Never before has an arena had the amenities, features and commitment to quality service that STAPLES Center offers to the fans and the City of Los Angeles. STAPLES Center continues to set new standards for the arena industry.

The 2010-11 season will mark the first full season that L.A. LIVE will be completely open and operating directly across the street from STAPLES Center. L.A. LIVE is a 4-million square foot / $2.5 billion downtown Los Angeles sports, residential and entertainment district. The development features, a 54-story, 1001-room convention “headquarters” hotel (combining JW Marriott and ¬The Ritz Carlton brands and 224 luxury condominiums – The Ritz Carlton Residences at L.A.), the 14-screen Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE Stadium 14 theatre, along with “broadcast” facilities for ESPN, Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE, a world-class 7,100-seat venue for live performances and Club Nokia, a 2,300 seat music venue.

Developed by AEG, L.A. LIVE is considered to be the nation's most active and in-demand live content, event and hospitality location featuring 260,480 sf of conference center and ballroom facilities, world-class restaurants including the ESPN Zone, The Farm of Beverly Hills, Flemings Steak House and Wine Bar, Katsuya, Lawry's Carvery, New Zealand Natural Ice Cream, Rock ‘N Fish, Rosa Mexicano, Starbucks, Trader Vic's, Yard House, Wolfgang Puck Bar and Grill, BOCA at the Conga Room, L.A. Market, WP24 and others, a 100,000 sf special events deck, the famous Lucky Strike Lanes and Lounge, the celebrity owned Conga Room, a one-of-a-kind GRAMMY Museum, saluting the history of music and the genre's best know awards show all centered around Nokia Plaza L.A. LIVE, a 40,000 sf outdoor event space.
