Slater Martin, the Hall of Fame guard who won four NBA titles with the Minneapolis Lakers, passed away on Thursday at the age of 86.

"Slater was one of the first great Lakers players, and a proud link to our early days in Minnesota," said Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak. "We're saddened by his passing, and we send our condolences to his family."

Martin starred alongside center George Mikan and forwards Vern Mikkelson and Jim Pollard in an era where the Lakers dominated basketball, including a run of three straight titles from 1952-54.
The Texas native was a 7-time NBA All-Star and 5-time All-NBA Second Teamer during an 11-year career in the league. Martin was known for being a fantastic defensive player on the perimeter.
