Shaq Named Western Conference Player of the Month

NEW YORK, April 1 – Los Angeles Lakers’ Shaquille O’Neal was named Western Conference Player of the Month for games played for the month of March.

O’Neal averaged 31.6 points and 2.88 rebounds while grabbing 11.0 rebounds per game in leading the Lakers to an 11-5 record for the month.

Here is a look at highlights from the month for Shaq:

  • March 7 vs. Minnesota: Had 40 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks in a 106-96 win over the visiting Timberwolves.
  • March 9 vs. Philadelphia: Recorded 39 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks in a 106-92 win over the 76ers.
  • March 21 vs. Boston: Scored 48 points while adding 20 rebounds in a 104-96 win over the Celtics.
  • March 23 at San Antonio: Had 32 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks as the Spurs defeated the visiting Lakers 98-89.

    Other candidates for Western Conference Players of the Month included Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki, Golden State’s Antawn Jamison, Houston’s Steve Francis, and Minnesota’s Kevin Garnett.
