Phil Jackson Will Undergo Hip Replacement Surgery
EL SEGUNDO – Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson will undergo surgery to replace his right hip next Tuesday, October 3, it was announced today.
The surgery will be performed at the Centinela Hospital Medical Center by Dr. Lawrence Dorr of the Arthritis Institute in Inglewood. Jackson is expected to be released from the hospital on Wednesday. It is uncertain at this time when Jackson will return to the team to resume his head coaching duties. The Lakers open training camp for the upcoming season on Tuesday.
Entering his seventh season as Head Coach of the Los Angeles Lakers after one year away from the team (2004-05), Jackson has led the Lakers to victories in 68 percent of the team’s contests and has compiled a 332-160 regular season record. In 15 seasons as an NBA head coach, Jackson has posted a mark of 877-353 (.713) which is the best winning percentage of any coach in NBA annals. The fastest coach to 800 career victories, his total of 877 regular season wins ranks him 9th all-time.
