A Legend Passes: Chick Hearn, 1916-2002
From Elgin to Magic to Shaq, and through nine championships, Chick Hearn provided play-by-play for the Lakers' entire 42-year history in Los Angeles. The beloved announcer, who called 3,338 consecutive Lakers games, died Aug. 5 at age 85. The Hall of Famer is widely credited with introducing terms such as "slam dunk" and "airball."
The family of Chick Hearn requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Chick's memory be made to the Chick Hearn Scholarship Fund at the USC Annenberg School for Communications.
