Lakers Announce Radio Broadcast Team: Joel Meyers and Mychal Thompson

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., June 11 - In association with the formal announcement of the end of simulcasting game broadcasts, the Los Angeles Lakers have announced the hiring of Joel Meyers (play-by-play) and Mychal Thompson (color analyst) as their radio broadcast team. All radio broadcasts will be carried on KLAC (570 AM).

Meyers, a St. Louis native, has over 20 years of broadcasting experience working for NBC, Fox Sports, ESPN and Westwood One. He has covered the Olympics, NBA, NFL and golf and most recently has been the play-by-play announcer for the San Antonio Spurs for the past four years.

Thompson, a former Laker and member of the championship teams of 1987 and 1988, played 12 years in the NBA. He was the first overall pick in the 1978 draft by the Portland Trailblazers and also played for the San Antonio Spurs. He had career averages of 13.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

Thompson has worked the past two seasons as the TV color analyst for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Prior to that he has also worked as an analyst for the Vancouver Grizzlies, Seattle Supersonics and Trailblazers and has also co-hosted a radio show in Portland.
