Lakers Land 42nd Draft Pick Thomas Bryant

When it comes to reach, few are going to be able to match the length of the Lakers' 42nd-overall draft pick, Thomas Bryant.

Acquired in a trade with Utah, Bryant will bring his 9-foot-4.5 standing reach and 7-foot-6 wingspan with him to Los Angeles. Both of those measurements rank in the 99th percentile of players, per DraftExpress.

And while his massive size and strength are his biggest selling points, Bryant displayed enough in two years at Indiana to be considered more than just a potential project.

He ran the floor well in transition and ended the year with an efficient true shooting percentage (60.1). Part of that number traces back to a clean 3-point stroke that allowed him to hit 37.3 percent of his 3-pointers (28-of-75) in his collegiate career.

Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka sees the 19-year-old as a "true stretch five" and was also impressed with his ability to protect the rim on the other end with his aforementioned length.

Pelinka was also impressed at Bryant's workout by his "extraordinary shape," which allowed him to compete in drills with guards.

“I think his length around the rim is disruptive,” Pelinka said. “When he steps out to the top of the key, you’ve got to guard him, because he’s got a beautiful 3-point shot.”

While Bryant occasionally popped off for a big performance, like his 31-point double-double against Penn State, he was more of an even-keel player whose efficiency was seen in his 59.2 field goal percentage and ability to crash the offensive glass.

Looking ahead, Bryant's potential will come from his ability to capitalize on his towering size.

At only 19 years old, Bryant will have plenty of time to develop his post game, add some explosion to his jump and more on his way to becoming a modern NBA center.
