2014 NBA Draft Profile: Joel Embiid

Joel Embiid was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year after setting a Kansas freshman record with 72 blocked shots. He was also named to the All-Big 12 Second Team and Big 12 All-Defensive Team, while finishing second in conference play in blocks (2.6 per game) and sixth in rebounds (8.1). The Cameroon native set KU freshman records in field goal percentage (62.1) and rebound average (8.1), and also led the team with eight double-doubles. A stress fracture in Embiid's back sidelined him for the last six games of his season, which included the Big 12 Tournament and the NCAA tournament.

From ESPN's Chad Ford (Insider):

"As a prospect, Embiid has so much going for him. He has elite NBA size, is a fluid athlete and has shown major improvements on the offensive end. He projects to be a big man who can score both with his back to the basket and on the perimeter. He's also an excellent rebounder and shot-blocker. The only real knock against him this season has been his relative inexperience and his back issues."

*Embiid did not participate at the NBA Draft Combine.
