Lakers Practice Report: 10/26/09

Oct 26 2009 6:08PM

Before we get into Phil Jackson’s Monday afternoon presser - the last practice interview prior to Tuesday’s season opener - let’s take a quick look at the timeline of Pau Gasol’s hamstring injury:

Tuesday, Oct. 13: We learn that Gasol has suffered a “slight hamstring strain” and is listed as day-to-day.

Wednesday, Oct. 14: An update the next day: “Pau felt a little twinge when he was doing warmup exercises and what not,” said Jackson at the time. Gasol would sit out the team’s preseason game the next night against Sacramento in Las Vegas.

Monday, Oct. 19: After Gasol missed both Lakers games over the weekend, the Spaniard participated in limited fashion in practice.

Thursday, Oct. 22: It’s reported that Gasol participated in limited fashion again during Wednesday’s practice, but slightly re-aggravated the hamstring. He did not play in that evening’s game against Denver, as Jackson said Gasol would be re-examined the following week.

Sunday, Oct. 25: Gasol tells us that while he’s feeling OK, he doesn’t want to push his hamstring too hard, too fast and put himself at risk to miss any significant time. Jackson suggests that the Lakers have a very capable backup for Gasol in Lamar Odom and that there are three days after the team’s first game.

And that brings us to today. The quick summary is below, though you can see what Phil had to say for yourself by clicking on the video.

Monday, Oct. 26: Jackson says that Gasol feels “much more optimistic” about his hamstring than he did on Friday (for example), and that he would be active for Tuesday’s game. However, Lakers spokesman John Black said that Gasol will still be listed as “doubtful.”

ODOM ON RING NIGHT In other news, to hear Lamar Odom talk about how he and his teammates are feeling about getting their rings in front of a sure-to-be bonkers STAPLES Center crowd, check out the video.
