April 2008 (7-1)

04/15/08: Lakers 124, Kings 101 (57-25)
The Los Angeles Lakers began the season in chaos 5½ months ago. They finished it as the Western Conference champions. Pau Gasol had 22 points, leading MVP candidate Kobe Bryant added 20, and the Lakers beat the short-handed Sacramento Kings 124-101 Tuesday night to clinch the No. 1 seed.

04/13/08: Lakers 106, Spurs 85 (56-25)
The Los Angeles Lakers took sole possession of the Western Conference lead Sunday. MVP candidate Kobe Bryant had 20 points, five rebounds and five assists before sitting out the fourth quarter, and the Lakers routed the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs 106-85 for their seventh win in eight games.

04/11/08: Lakers 107, Hornets 104 (55-25)
Kobe Bryant flashed a big smile after leading the Los Angeles Lakers to victory in their most important game of the season. It was the smile of a champion. "It's good to be No. 1," Bryant said after the Lakers beat the New Orleans Hornets 107-104 Friday night to clinch the Pacific Division championship.

04/10/08: Lakers 106, Clippers 78 (54-25)
Luke Walton has been hampered by a strained right hamstring recently, limiting his physical activity. Fact is, all he was able to do for several days was practice shooting. It paid off Thursday night. Walton had 18 points, five rebounds and four assists, five teammates scored in double figures.

04/08/08: Trailblazers 112, Lakers 103 (53-25)
Brandon Roy scored 23 points and matched his career high with 12 assists, and the Portland Trail Blazers held off the Los Angeles Lakers 112-103 on Tuesday night. LaMarcus Aldridge had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Portland, which snapped a five-game losing streak.

04/06/08: Lakers 114, Kings 92 (53-24)
Lamar Odom scored a season-high 31 points, Kobe Bryant added 25 points and 10 rebounds, and the Los Angeles Lakers clinched a playoff berth Friday night with a 112-108 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. The Lakers have qualified for the playoffs in 55 of their 60 seasons as a franchise.

Lamar Odom scored a season-high 31 points, Kobe Bryant added 25 points and 10 rebounds, and the Los Angeles Lakers clinched a playoff berth Friday night with a 112-108 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. The Lakers have qualified for the playoffs in 55 of their 60 seasons as a franchise.

Kobe Bryant scored 14 of his 36 points in the fourth quarter, Pau Gasol added 10 points in his first game in nearly three weeks and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Portland Trail Blazers 104-91 on Wednesday night. Bryant also had 13 rebounds and seven assists for the Lakers.

03/30/08: Lakers 126, Wizards 120 (50-24)
Kobe Bryant scored six of his 26 points in overtime, and the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Washington Wizards 126-120 Sunday night to snap a two-game losing skid. Sasha Vujacic scored 20 points, Luke Walton added 19, Vladimir Radmanovic 18 and Lamar Odom had 10 points and 13 rebounds.

03/28/08: Grizzlies 114, Lakers 111 (49-24)
Kobe Bryant provided a ton of offense. The Los Angeles Lakers' defense was another story. Rudy Gay led five players in double figures with 28 points and the Memphis Grizzlies won 114-111 despite 53 points by Bryant against the NBA's worst road team Friday night.

03/26/08: Bobcats 108, Lakers 95 (49-23)
Jason Richardson and Raymond Felton got sick Wednesday morning, putting their status in question for the Charlotte Bobcats' game against the high-flying Los Angeles Lakers. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they recovered in time to play.

03/24/08: Lakers 123, Warriors 119 (49-22)
Lamar Odom made the go-ahead layup with 9 seconds left in overtime, and the Los Angeles Lakers shook off the Golden State Warriors' frantic regulation rally to hang on for a 123-119 victory Monday night, concluding an immensely entertaining miniseries. Kobe Bryant scored 23 of his 30 points after halftime.

03/23/08: Warriors 115, Lakers 111 (48-22)
Stephen Jackson scored six of his 31 points on two 3-pointers in the final 38 ½ seconds, and the Golden State Warriors beat the Los Angeles Lakers 115-111 Sunday night after blowing a 26-point lead. Jackson's first 3-pointer gave the Warriors a 112-108 lead.

03/21/08: Lakers 130, Supersonics 105 (48-21)
Kobe Bryant scored 23 points, seven of his teammates also scored in double digits, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat Seattle 130-105 on Friday night, sending the SuperSonics to their 10th straight loss and completing a sweep of the four-game season series.

03/20/08: Lakers 106, Jazz 95 (47-21)
The Los Angeles Lakers quickly discouraged any Utah fans who hoped to see the Jazz set a team record for consecutive home wins. Jazz fans had barely started booing Kobe Bryant before he and the Lakers made nine of their first 10 shots and were up by 20 before the end of the first quarter.

03/18/08: Lakers 102, Mavericks 100 (46-21)
Kobe Bryant took a pass in the lane and spun toward a defender, flicking the ball over his head once his back was toward the basket. The ball hit the glass, caromed off the rim and fell into the net. Just like that, the Los Angeles Lakers were up by 25 points midway through the third quarter.

03/16/08: Rockets 104, Lakers 92 (45-21)
The Lakers came back from a 15-point halftime deficit but could not overcome the host Rockets in a 104-92 loss on Sunday. Kobe Bryant scored 24 points and Lamar Odom posted 17 points and 11 rebounds.

03/14/08: Hornets 108, Lakers 98 (45-20)
Chris Paul had 27 points and 17 assists to help the New Orleans Hornets beat the Los Angeles Lakers 108-98 Friday night in what could prove to be a costly game for both teams as Chris Paul, David West (aggravated existing injury) and Pau Gasol all suffered ankle injuries.

03/11/08: Lakers 117, Raptors 108 (45-19)
Kobe Bryant scored 10 of his 34 points in the final 8½ minutes, Lamar Odom added 20 points and nine rebounds, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Toronto Raptors 117-108 on Tuesday night to regain the top spot in the Western Conference. Now, they'll face a major challenge, playing their next 4 games on the road.

Sacramento's Beno Udrih made two free throws with 4 seconds remaining, and Los Angeles' Kobe Bryant missed an 18-foot jumper at the buzzer Sunday night in the Kings' 114-113 victory over the Lakers. Udrih finished with 25 points and 10 assists for Sacramento, Kevin Martin added 21 points for the Kings.

03/07/08: Lakers 119, Clippers 82 (44-18)
The Lakers didn't have to cross the line. They were doing just fine behind it. Derek Fisher scored 17 points, Kobe Bryant had 16 and the Lakers went on a 3-point shooting spree in the second half of a 119-82 rout of the Clippers on Friday night. "I think what we did is that we stepped up our pressure," Bryant said.

03/04/08: Lakers 117, Kings 105 (43-18)
Kobe Bryant scored 17 of his 34 points in an electric fourth-quarter performance, and Pau Gasol added 31 points in the Los Angeles Lakers' 12th victory in 13 games, 117-105 over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night. Bryant scored all of his fourth-quarter points in the final 5:56, including 11 straight.

03/02/08: Lakers 108, Mavericks 104 (42-18)
Kobe Bryant scored 30 of his 52 points in the fourth quarter and overtime Sunday to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 108-104 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Bryant hit the 50-point mark for the 22nd time in his career and first time this season. He went 15-of-27 from the floor and was 20-of-27 from the line.

02/29/08: Trailblazers 119, Lakers 111 (41-18)
Brandon Roy launched a rally for the Portland Trail Blazers' final 24 games. He told his teammates: "Let's make a push, you guys!" Portland responded with a 119-111 victory Friday night over the Los Angeles Lakers. Roy had 20 points and a career-high 12 assists after missing the previous two games.

02/28/08: Lakers 106, Heat 88 (41-17)
Jordan Farmar scored a career-high 24 points, Kobe Bryant added 21 and the Lakers extended their winning streak to a season-best 10 games Thursday night with a 106-88 victory over the Heat. The Lakers maintained their one-game lead over the San Antonio Spurs for best record in the Western Conference.

02/26/08: Lakers 96, Trailblazers 83 (40-17)
Kobe Bryant scored 11 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter and the Los Angeles Lakers held the Trail Blazers to 36 percent field goal shooting, beating Portland 96-83 Tuesday night for their ninth straight victory. Second-year backup point guard Jordan Farmar tied a career high with 21 points for the Lakers.

02/24/08: Lakers 111, Sonics 91 (39-17)
Kobe Bryant made it look too easy scoring, distributing and leading the Los Angeles Lakers back to the top of the Western Conference. Even if he didn’t get to see the final 16 minutes. Bryant scored 21 points in just 26 minutes, handed out 10 assists, and picked up his first ejection of the season in a 111-91 win.

02/23/08: Lakers 113, Clippers 95 (38-17)
Pau Gasol scored 23 points, five teammates finished in double figures, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the short-handed Los Angeles Clippers 113-95 Saturday night for their seventh straight victory. The Lakers, tied with Phoenix for the Western Conference lead, also won seven in a row earlier this season.

02/20/08: Lakers 130, Suns 124 (37-17)
Kobe Bryant scored 41 points to help the Los Angeles Lakers spoil Shaquille O'Neal's Phoenix debut with a 130-124 victory over the Suns on Wednesday night. Pau Gasol added 29, including a breakaway dunk that put Los Angeles up 123-117 with 1:15 to play.

02/19/08: Lakers 122, Hawks 93 (36-17)
Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol each scored 23 points before sitting out the fourth quarter, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Atlanta Hawks 122-93 Tuesday night for their fifth straight victory. It was Gasol's first home game with Los Angeles.

02/13/08: Lakers 117, Timberwolves 92 (35-17)
After two weeks on the road, the Los Angeles Lakers are going home with Pau Gasol and an impressive record. Kobe Bryant scored 29 points, Gasol pitched in, Lamar Odom patched together a triple-double, and the Lakers breezed past the Minnesota Timberwolves Wednesday to finish their road trip 7-2.

02/11/08: Lakers 106, Bobcats 97 (34-17)
Kobe Bryant scored 31 points, Pau Gasol added 26 and the new-look Los Angeles Lakers continued their impressive road trip with a 106-97 win over the reeling Charlotte Bobcats on Monday. The Lakers improved to 4-1 since acquiring Gasol behind Bryant's third straight game scoring 30 or more points.

02/10/08: Lakers 104, Heat 94 (33-17)
Shawn Marion's debut was strong. It just wasn't enough for the Miami Heat to stop Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant scored 33 points, and the Lakers used a 16-2 second-half run to pull away and beat the skidding Heat 104-94 Sunday in Miami's first home game of its post-Shaquille O'Neal era.

02/08/08: Lakers 117, Magic 113 (32-17)
Kobe Bryant had 36 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, and Pau Gasol scored 30 points, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a wild 117-113 victory over the Orlando Magic on Friday night. Derek Fisher added 14 points and seven assists for the Lakers, who gave up a season-high 44 points in the first quarter.

02/06/08: Hawks 98, Lakers 95 (31-17)
Joe Johnson scored 28 points, including four free throws in the final 23 seconds, and the Atlanta Hawks beat Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers 98-95 on Wednesday night. With Atlanta leading 95-93, Bryant was called for a turnover with 8 seconds left.

02/05/08: Lakers 105, Nets 90 (31-16)
Pau Gasol was a winner in his Lakers debut, without even much help from Kobe Bryant. Gasol had 24 points and 12 rebounds, and the Lakers beat the New Jersey Nets 105-90 on Tuesday night despite a season-low six points from Bryant, his first single-digit effort in more than a year.

Driving and dunking and dropping in a 3-pointer, Kobe Bryant delivered a game's worth of highlights in the first quarter Sunday, outscoring the Washington Wizards all by himself. Then he let his Los Angeles Lakers teammates join in all the fun.

02/01/08: Lakers 121, Raptors 101 (29-16)
Kobe Bryant scored 46 points and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Toronto Raptors 121-101 on Friday night, hours after acquiring Pau Gasol in a trade with Memphis. Bryant had the crowd gasping with several dunks--one over Toronto's Carlos Delfino in the second quarter and a one-handed jam in the fourth.

01/31/08: Pistons 90, Lakers 89 (28-16)
Kobe Bryant was unstoppable at times, scoring 10 straight points in the third quarter and finishing with 39. With the game on the line, the Pistons prevented him from attempting a game-winning shot. Tayshaun Prince made a 3-pointer with 4.5 seconds left and Lamar Odom shot an airball, giving Detroit the victory.

01/29/08: Lakers 120, Knicks 109 (28-15)
Kobe Bryant had 24 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, Sasha Vujacic scored 12 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, and the Los Angeles Lakers rallied for a 120-109 victory over the New York Knicks on Tuesday night. The Lakers trailed 99-91 when Vujacic made a pair of 3-pointers to get them going.

01/27/08: Cavs 98, Lakers 95 (27-15)
LeBron James and Kobe Bryant went back and forth throughout an intense fourth quarter. James and his Cleveland Cavaliers won out in the end, even surviving a few raindrops at Staples Center. James scored 14 of his 41 points in the final period, and the Cavaliers beat the short-handed Lakers 98-95 Sunday.

01/25/08: Mavericks 112, Lakers 105 (27-14)
Kobe Bryant was coming off a third quarter to forget. He made one shot. He went down hard on consecutive plays, and on the second one of those he was called for a foul. he fourth quarter opened with a backup center failing to get him the ball on a handoff. Then his bad night got better, but it wasn't enough.

With his team down nine points at halftime, San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich went with an intellectual, rather than emotional, appeal on Wednesday night. "'You have to participate in your recovery,'' recounted guard Brent Barry. "I think that stuck with us."

Derek Fisher scored a season-high 28 points, Jordan Farmar added 19, and the short-handed Los Angeles Lakers broke open a tight game late in the third quarter to beat the Denver Nuggets 116-99 on Monday night for their 18th win in 22 games. Kobe Bryant had 17 points and a season-high 11 assists.

01/17/08: Suns 106, Lakers 98 (26-12)
The Phoenix Suns finally found a way to beat the Los Angeles Lakers after two decisive losses this season. Excellent shooting and ball movement were the key factors, along with a major hole in the middle on the other side. The Suns beat the Andrew Bynum-less Lakers 106-98 on Thursday night.

01/14/08: Lakers 123, Supersonics 121 (26-11)
Kobe Bryant scored 48 points and capped his season-best offensive outburst by swishing an 18-footer with 4.3 seconds left in overtime to help the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Seattle SuperSonics 123-121 on Monday night. The Lakers were playing their first game without injured center Andrew Bynum.

01/13/08: Lakers 100, Grizzlies 99 (25-11)
Kobe Bryant scored 37 points, Kwame Brown made a foul shot with 9.2 seconds remaining, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Memphis Grizzlies 100-99 Sunday night, but they might have lost outstanding young center Andrew Bynum in the process. The Lakers extended their winning streak to six.

As sick as Kobe Bryant felt and acted in the waning moments before tip-off, it didn't look like he'd be much use to the Los Angeles Lakers. Coach Phil Jackson knew better, because he'd gone through this before with another superstar -- Michael Jordan. Bryant scored 16 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter.

The Lakers won their fourth straight game 109-80 over the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday night. With balanced scoring and stifling defense, the Lakers turned what was supposed to be a marquee matchup between two of the NBA's hottest teams into a lopsided affair that left the home crowd groaning.

Derek Fisher scored 26 points and Kobe Bryant added 25 to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 117-101 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night. It was the 13th win in 16 games for the Lakers, who have won six of their last eight road games. The Grizzlies never led in the game.

Kobe Bryant scored 12 of his 26 points in the third quarter, Andrew Bynum had 23 points and 13 rebounds, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Indiana Pacers 112-96 Sunday night for their 12th win in 15 games. Derek Fisher scored 22 points and Lamar Odom had 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Lakers.

01/04/08: Lakers 124, 76ers 93 (20-11)
Andrew Bynum dominated inside with 17 points and a career-high 16 rebounds Friday night, and the Los Angeles Lakers rolled to a 124-93 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. Bynum, who turned in a similarly strong performance when the Lakers beat the 76ers last month, shot 6-for-8 from the floor.

12/30/07: Celtics 110, Lakers 91 (19-11)
Paul Pierce scored 33 points and Kevin Garnett had 22 points, 12 rebounds and six assists Sunday night to lead the Boston Celtics to a 110-91 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. Boston took the lead in the first quarter and never relinquished it. Each time the Lakers threatened, the Celtics would pull away again.

Phil Jackson pulled even with Red Auerbach in regular-season victories, 5 1/2 seasons after tying the Boston Celtics coach for the most NBA championships won. Kobe Bryant had 31 points and seven assists before sitting out the fourth quarter and the Lakers beat the Utah Jazz 123-109.

12/25/07: Lakers 122, Suns 115 (18-10)
Kobe Bryant scored 26 of his 38 points in the second half, Andrew Bynum had a career-high 28 points to go with 12 rebounds and a season-high four assists, and the Lakers beat the Phoenix Suns 122-115 on Tuesday for their ninth win in 11 games.

12/23/07: Lakers 95, Knicks 90 (17-10)
Kobe Bryant scored 39 points, becoming the youngest player in NBA history to reach 20,000, and the Los Angeles Lakers held off the New York Knicks 95-90 Sunday. Bryant added 11 rebounds and eight assists in his first game at Madison Square Garden in nearly two years.

12/21/07: Lakers 106, 76ers 101 (16-10)
Not even Dr. J could inspire the 76ers. On a night Julius Erving and Philadelphia's 1983 championship team was honored, Andrew Bynum and the Lakers stole the show. Bynum scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Lamar Odom had 21 and 11 to lead LA to a 106-101 win over the Sixers.

12/20/07: Cavs 94, Lakers 90 (15-10)
LeBron James scored 33 points and shut out Kobe Bryant when the two superstars guarded each other in the final 2:23, leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 94-90 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night. James, the NBA's leading scorer, added 10 rebounds and five assists.

12/18/07: Lakers 103, Bulls 91 (15-9)
Sasha Vujacic scored 19 points, Lamar Odom added 17 points and 16 rebounds, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Chicago Bulls 103-91 Tuesday night. Odom started an 11-point run with a layup and capped it with a dunk as the Lakers turned an 86-83 lead into a 14-point advantage with 3:24 left.

12/16/07: Lakers 113, Clippers, 92 (14-9)
Kobe Bryant scored 32 points and Sasha Vujacic scored all of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 113-92 victory over the Clippers on Sunday night. Andrew Bynum, finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots in his anticipated matchup against Chris Kaman.

Baron Davis put his usual game-breaking flair on the decisive 3-pointer with 16.8 seconds to play, and the Golden State Warriors roared from behind in the final minutes to snap their nine-game losing streak to the Lakers with a 108-106 victory Friday night.

12/13/07: Lakers 102, Spurs 97 (13-8)
The Lakers got 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals from Kobe Bryant to close out the San Antonio Spurs 102-97 at STAPLES Center on Thursday night for their fourth consecutive win in December. The Spurs were without stars Tim Duncan and Tony Parker. Lamar Odom added 15 points and 8 rebounds.

Kobe Bryant had 20 of his 28 points in the second half, six teammates scored in double figures, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat Golden State 123-113 Sunday night for their ninth straight win over the Warriors. The win was the third straight for the Lakers (12-8), who have won 14 of their last 15 games over Golden State.

Allen Iverson scored a season-high 51 points but Kobe Bryant's 25 led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 111-107 win over the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night. Vladimir Radmanovic scored 21 points and Derek Fisher added 20 for the Lakers.
