Laker Girl - Shaylene | May 7, 2012
Hi Lakers Fans!
My name is Shaylene and this is my first year as a Laker Girl. It has been a thrilling experience so far, with exciting games, great energy from our fans and memorable moments with my fellow teammates. I am so honored to have the opportunity to be an ambassador for the Los Angeles Lakers Organization and to dance for my favorite basketball team……
The Los Angeles Lakers!
One of my favorite parts about being a Laker Girl is interacting with the community and our participation in charitable functions. I feel it is a very rewarding and humbling experience. We do many Charitable/Community events throughout the year, all for many for different causes. One in particular that stands out in my mind was the 5k Derby Day Run/Walk at Santa Anita Race Track. This was a fundraising event for AbilityFirst which is geared to support those affected by a developmental and/or physical disability. I had the chance to cheer on the participants to finish the race, take pictures and meet each individual. It was fun to be a part of this event and I will cherish everyone I met while participating at that event – they all had such fun-filled personalities!
I know you read this already in my other team mates blogs, but this season we (Laker Girls) had the chance to cheer and perform for the L.A. D-Fenders – which is our D-League team. They are owned and operated by the L.A. Lakers. Every D-Fenders home game we performed at, was an experience to remember.
The D-Fenders played so well this year and made it all the way to NBA D-League Finals! Woo hoo!
Unfortunately, the Austin Toros claimed victory over the Los Angeles D-Fenders in the Finals beating them 122-110. It was a tough loss for the D-Fenders on their home court, but we couldn't have been more proud of how the D-Fenders did all season! Whether I am jumping up and down with excitement at a Lakers game, D-Fenders game or working hard at Laker Girls rehearsals, it always gets me craving a tasty treat! Which means, there are times I just head over to Carl’s Jr…….to pick up something fast and yummy!
You should try it too…….so don’t forget, try to stop by your local Carl’s Jr. after a Lakers Game.
Their menu has a variety of items to choose from, so I am sure you can find something that will fit your craving too!
Okay, I can't believe how quickly this season has gone by and that we are now in the month of May!
As you all know, the NBA Playoffs are going on now and we have had four games so far, against the Denver Nuggets in the first round. The Los Angeles Lakers started the Playoffs with home-court advantage at Staples Center on Sunday, April 28th beating the Denver Nuggets 103-88. Game two took place on Tuesday, May 1st and yet again Lakers had another home victory 104-100. The Lakers had two away games in Denver and I was glued to my television cheering for the Lakers to sweep the Denver Nuggets. The Lakers battled, but dropped game three to the Denver Nuggets 99-84.
However, in Game four on May 6th, the Lakers rebounded with an amazing win 92-88. Now, the Lakers lead the series 3-1.
The Lakers will come back home on Tuesday, May 8th to try and close out the series and move on to the second round. I am so proud of the Lakers team and how well they are playing. The 2011-12 Lakers are a very talented team……..I am looking forward to cheering at more playoff games!
I believe in the Lakers and feel we can make it all the way to NBA Championships! I must say, all of the Lakers fans have been so loyal – we really can't thank you enough for all your support throughout the season!
Keep cheering loud, put on your Lakers gear, wave your rally towels and let’s keep up the high energy.
Purple and Gold forever!
Lastly, I just want to say how much of an honor it has been to be apart of such an amazing organization and highly skilled dance team.
Being a Laker Girl has changed my life and I am forever grateful! I thoroughly enjoy dancing/performing for all the fans. Not to mention, it’s nice to get to witness you all wearing the Lakers purple and gold! Keep it up!
Thanks for reading.
