HAPPY NEW YEAR LAKERS FANS!
I’m Octavia and it’s great to be back for my third season! I hope all of you enjoyed your holidays and are ready for an amazing 2012 year! It has been great to start up the Lakers season and it sure has made my holidays a lot brighter. (I’m sure yours was too!)
There are countless things to be thankful for in 2011, but I can’t wait to see what 2012 has to offer for everyone. The Lakers definitely ended 2011right with an exciting win against the Denver Nuggets 89-92. Yay!
I was able to go home to New Mexico to spend some time with my family for the holidays. At one point, I got a little nervous because it was snowing pretty badly. Thankfully the snow stopped so I could get back to Los Angeles, to dance at our Lakers game on Christmas day. Although we barely lost our opening game on Christmas, you fans still made the game so exciting with all of your positive energy and love for the Lakers. The Laker Girls and I had so much fun being at our first game of the season - and it was Christmas! We danced to Christmas music, some of my favorites like Last Christmas and Feliz Navidad. Also, we wore our Christmas outfits for the first half of the game. I thought it was fun and festive!
The holiday season has kept our dance team really busy. We were scheduled out in our community - doing charity appearances, supporting foundations and just giving back to those in need. I love to be a part of the L.A. community, just as much as I love to be a part of the games. I feel these events are equally important, and that when we (the Laker Girls) happily give up our time and hearts…… it comes back in ways we don’t even expect.
My favorite charity event we participated in this year was called “operation gratitude”. The Lakers organization teamed up to make care packages that were sent to troops overseas. The troops and armed forces do so much for our country and our community, so it was nice to send them a piece of home especially during the holiday season. It was nice because we were also able to remind them that we were thinking about them, by writing personalized letters of how much we appreciate all that they do for our country. The letters we wrote will be included in the care packages too. I enjoyed being a part of this event.
With so much going on like school, work, rehearsal, charity events, appearances, D-Fenders games and Lakers games - I rarely have time to cook breakfast. Luckily there is a Carl’s Jr. located near my house so I can grab, one of my favorites, the monster biscuit for breakfast on-the-go. Yummy!
So much as happened these last few months anticipating our season; Laker Girls auditions in July, rehearsals started in August, our Laker Girls trip to China in October, a busy holiday season in November, the NBA season starting in December, and here we are now……. A new season and ready to take on a new year!
I hope you all made some good New Year’s resolutions! I truly wish you all prosperity, love and a very Happy New Year. Keep the positive attitude Lakers fans - and let’s make this year like no other!
