Laker Girls Blog 12/21/11 - Jessica
Hi Lakers Fans!
Iím Jessica and this is my fourth year as a Laker Girl. Every year that I have been on the dance team ends up being completely unique and different from the year before - this year is certainly no exception! All of the Laker Girls (including myself) are incredibly excited that an agreement was reached so that NBA basketball could return in time for Christmas!
Though every Lakers season differs, the Laker Girl audition remains the same and each year is just as nerve wracking as the last! Everyone has to re-audition every summer, if they would like to be a part of the team again. This makes it a ďfairĒ process for all that attend the audition. This year, we learned some really fun dances! You can check out photos from the audition on Lakers.com.
The delay of the NBA season did affect us in a few ways, but one thing it didnít affect was the way we prepared for the season! We began attending rehearsals and learning new dances almost immediately! In addition, we were attending more charitable functions and community events than ever before! It was definitely a great time for the new girls to learn about how much work we do in the community and to how we get involved! As busy as we stay, sometimes we have to grab food on the run, which is why Carlís Jr. is a great ďdrive-thruĒ option. They have an entire section of their menu dedicated to healthier options including Low Carb, Gluten Free and Vegetarian selections which cater to just about any diet!
Performing at the D- Fenders games, which is our Developmental League Basketball team has been a new experience for us this season. It has been a great way for us to show support for the Lakers developmental team, as well as practicing for the upcoming Lakers games. In addition, we had the chance to dance at the Lakers open practice/scrimmage game that was held at the Galen Center. It was exciting to see how our team is shaping up this year and how Head Coach Mike Brown is going to run the show!!
Well, Monday was our highly anticipated preseason game between the Lakers and the Clippers, and I have to say that it was so nice to be back at STAPLES Center. For me, it was unbelievably exciting to be back on the court watching Kobe, Andrew, Pau, Matt and of course Metta World Peace. We didnít come away with the victory, but I think that the Lakers are only just starting to rev up for the season.
I must admit, I think we are looking ahead at an exciting season with a strong team!!!
See you at a game!
