Laker Girls Blog 05/09/11 - Erica
I’m Erica and this is my third season with the L.A. Laker Girls. It’s a bit of a sad day for Lakers nation, unfortunately, as our Back-to-Back defending Champions’ historic run for a 3-peat came to a rather abrupt end in the second round of the playoffs. Although we’re all sad to see the season and quest for banner #17 come to an end, I have no doubt that the Lakers will be back! One of the best franchises in sports history, I have complete confidence that the Lakers will be ready to compete for another Championship come next season!
With the end of another Lakers season, I think it’s a good time to reflect on some of the great things we got to experience this year as Laker Girls. For starters, traveling to London and Barcelona for our preseason exhibition games was an amazing experience and one I’m very fortunate to have been a part of. Also, how amazing was it to see our banner being raised on our opening night…..and giving the guys their back-to-back Champion rings!?! Amazing.
In addition, hopefully you picked up your copy of the Laker Girls calendar, because bonding with all the girls during that photo shoot was also one of my favorite moments of the year.
I’d also like to take this time to thank all of our die-hard Lakers fans out there. No matter if the Lakers were up or down, you all have been so supportive of this team throughout the season. While I’ve never heard STAPLES Center louder than Game 7 of the Finals against Boston last year, I must say, when we needed you this year against the Hornets and Mavericks, you guys brought it with that same Game 7 intensity. So again, thank you to all the fans for your continued support throughout this year.
Even though we have no more Lakers basketball this season, the Laker Girls will still continue to be active in the Los Angeles community with a number of charitable and promotional appearances throughout the Southland. Although we would all much rather be cheering on our Lakers to a 3-peat right now, the early offseason means we’ll have more time than usual to take vacations and enjoy the summer months ahead. For me, this means taking road trips and going to visit my family that lives out of state…and of course, grabbing some Carl’s Jr. along the way!
We have been so lucky the past few years to witness our beloved Lakers win multiple Championships. Coming off three consecutive trips to the NBA Finals, I know it’s difficult, but now is the time to reflect on how difficult what we accomplished really was! It truly is a time to be proud of what our guys have achieved and how exciting the journey has been.
I know I’ll still wear my purple and gold with pride this summer and I look forward to seeing everyone back out at STAPLES Center next season as we start a new Championship run!
Until next year Lakers fans!
