2005 Little League World Series Champions Honored at Lakers Game

On August 28, the West Oahu Little League baseball team captured the 2005 Little League World Series title in a thrilling, come-from-behind, 7-6 victory over defending champions Willemstad, Curacao. In doing so, they also captured the hearts of the people of Hawaii and fans around the world as they brought home the state’s first Little League World Series title ever. Through their inspiring play throughout the playoffs, the 12 and 13 year olds from West Oahu showed the world the meaning of teamwork, dedication, desire and perseverance.

On Tuesday, October 11th, the Lakers honored the 2005 Little League World Series Champions in a special halftime presentation during the Warriors vs. Lakers game at the Stan Sheriff Center at the University of Hawaii – Manoa. The West Oahu Little League baseball team received a thunderous applause and a standing ovation from the crowd as they walked onto center court. The pride and joy felt for the team by the Hawaiian community were overwhelming and undeniable.

Each player and coach on the team received an award from the Lakers recognizing his outstanding achievement. Participating in the halftime ceremony were: Layson "Kaeo" Aliviado, Myron "Kini" Enos Jr., Alaka'i Aglipay, Sheyne Baniaga, Michael Memea, Vonn Fe'ao, Quentin Guevara, Ethan Javier, Ty Tirpak, Harrison Kam, Zachary Rosete, Zachary Ranit, Layton Aliviado (Team Manager) and Clint Tirpak (First Base Coach). Dugout Coach Tyron Kitashima was not able to attend.

After the game, the team had the opportunity to meet some of their favorite Laker players including Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, Luke Walton, Kwame Brown, Chris Mihm and Brian Cook, who were as equally honored to meet the young champions. The players took the time to sign autographs and take group photos with the West Oahu Little League team before boarding the team bus.
