Lakers ECO Night Presented by East West Bank

On April 4th, 2014 the Los Angeles Lakers hosted an ECO Night presented by East West Bank. The night began with each fan that entered in to STAPLES Center receiving a Eco tote bag courtesy of East West Bank. The large bags are perfect for grocery shopping, taking to the gym or for simply carrying extra things to a meeting or school.

Pre-game, East West Bank’s Emily Wang presented the 2014 Lakers ECO All-Star Award to Ryan Allen of the Koreatown Youth and Community Center. Ryan first began doing environmental work and serving communities during his two years of national service through AmeriCorps. Returning home to Los Angeles he found a passion for trees, and connecting people to nature. Working with the environmental nonprofit TreePeople and now KYCC, Ryan is helping to bring communities together across Los Angeles to help them realize their goals to green their neighborhoods.

During the game fans were given ECO tips from some of their favorite Lakers stars: Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Jodie Meeks. The Lakers players spoke about the importance of taking care of our environment and give helpful tips on how fans in their daily lives can do things that positively impact their surroundings. In addition to helpful ECO tips the Lakers featured a video about their event with KYCC during NBA Green Week. Xavier Henry, Robert Sacre, the Laker Girls and over 100 community volunteers cleaned up an alley way be removing the graffiti an beautifying a neighborhood close to STAPLES Center.

Lastly the Los Angeles Lakers and East West Bank invited Los Angeles area organizations that make a positive impact on the environment to host booths on the main concourse to display their work and to let the fans know how they can get involved. These organizations were Heal the Bay, TreePeople and Friends of the LA River.
