“A Season of Giving”, presented by East West Bank, Continues with the Lakers Holiday Party For Kids
Eighty children from Los Angeles area Boys & Girls Clubs joined the Lakers players, the Laker Girls, and staff for the Lakers Holiday Party for Kids as part of “A Season of Giving”, presented by East West Bank. Kids from the Boys and Girls Club of the San Fernando Valley, Boys and Girls Club of Venice, Boys & Girls Club of East Los Angeles, and the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley were treated to an afternoon of holiday fun.
The kids began their day with meeting at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, for ice skating with the Laker Girls. Each kid received a Holiday Party for Kids t-shirt along with a Lakers scarf to wear during their 1 hour on the ice. Many of the children had not previously ice-skated and were taught how to skate by one of the Laker Girls. As the kids finished up ice skating they were then given a warm cup of hot chocolate before entering in to the party area where they were served a delicious lunch hosted by Jersey Mike’s Subs.
For dessert each kid was given a gingerbread man and supplies to decorate them. This prepared them for the gingerbread man decorating competition that the Lakers players participated in. Each Lakers player sat at a table of kids and helped them to design and then decorate a gingerbread man. Darius Morris was the judge of the cookie decorating contest and choose the winning table who all received NBA Season of Giving basketballs. The Lakers players also played video games, foosball, Pop-A-Shot basketball and sang Holiday carols with the kids.
During the party each child had the chance to get their picture taken with Kobe Bryant in a big Santa chair. At the end of the day the photo was printed out for each child to take home. Lakers players then gathered together to pass out holiday gifts bags to the children complete with Lakers mini basketball hoops, foam fingers, pins, starting five photo, Laker Girl photo, and their printed photo with Santa Kobe. The children bid farewell to the Lakers with a loud and happy thank you!
The Lakers were happy to give and the kids were ecstatic to receive not only a few fun souvenirs but more importantly memories that will last a lifetime.
