Camp Lakers 2012

The past two weeks the 13th Annual Camp Lakers has been in full swing at Roybal Learning Center. 400 kids participated in the camp this year, ages ranging from 9 to 18 years old. The campers were immersed in everything basketball: drills, games and even question and answer sessions with some of their favorite Lakers players.

A typical day at Camp Lakers would include: stretching, ball handling, rebounding, shooting, team offense and team defense drills and a special visit from a guest speaker. Guest speakers this year included: Darius Morris, Andrew Goudelock, Devin Ebanks, Steve Blake and Lakers Head Coach Mike Brown.

Along with all of the drills each camper was put on a specific team based on their ability where they would then practice and play games against the other teams at the end of each day. The final day of camp the teams with the best records would compete in the Championship Games. Winners of these games were then recognized at an award ceremony during the conclusion of camp.

“Every year at Camp Lakers it gets better and better. It is great to see the excitement on all of the kids’ faces when they are interacting with the coaches or getting to see one of their favorite basketball players.” Director of Camp Lakers Rondre Jackson says about the 2012 Camp Lakers. “We are looking forward to camp next year. Each year we try to outdo ourselves by making it bigger and better than before.”
