Lakers Viewing Party at Boys & Girls Club of East Los Angeles

On Monday evening, the Laker Girls and Laker employees joined 150 young boys and girls at the Boyx & Girls Club of East Los Angeles for dinner and Game 5 of the NBA Playoffs series between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Upon entering the dining/viewing area of the Club, the kids were greeted by Lakers staffers and given a Lakers Mardi Gras necklace and raffle ticket to be entered in to the halftime prize raffle.

Once fully inside the multipurpose room the patrons were greeted then Laker Girls, and each person received a personalized autographed photo of the 2011-2012 Laker Girls. After receiving their autograph the kids could plainly see that purple and gold was everywhere, from table decorations to the Lakers 16th Larry O’Brien Trophy from 2010. A local Mexican restaurant supplied a delicious meal for the viewing party and the kids feasted upon tamales, tacos, salad, beans, rice and lots of salsa.

After dinner, the group gathered by the large projection screen and three big screen TVs to cheer on the Lakers as they played in their fifth game of the series. Adrian Garcia Marquez and Francisco Pinto, the Los Angeles Lakers’ new Spanish commentators for Time Warner Cable, were the special guests of the viewing party and sat with all of the kids to watch the game.

During halftime, Lakers Community Relation Director, Jason McDevitt led the kids in some light stretching to get them loosened up for the second half of the game. After the stretches, Adrian Garcia Marquez and Francisco Pinto began the raffle which included autographed items from the Lakers starting lineup: Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol, Metta World Peace and Ramon Sessions.

Despite the outcome of the game, the kids all had a great time cheering on the Lakers and talking about how the Lakers will win it all next season.
