Lakers Team Up Event: LA Regional Food Bank/Jewish Family Services
Members of the Lakers staff again joined Jewish Family Services, this time at their food pantry near Sunset and La Brea in West Hollywood, for a Lakers Team Up event. The food pantry is a part of the LA Regional Food Bank network which annually distributes millions of pounds of food to hundreds of thousands of hungry and needy people throughout Los Angeles County.
Clients at the Jewish Family Services pantry filled out a checklist order form, indicating which staple foods they would like to receive. The Lakers staff and other volunteers worked in the pantry to assembled food packages from the requests on those order forms. The pantry featured standard staple foods like canned beans, rice and powdered milk, along with fresh vegetables, frozen chicken and some fresh bread donated by local grocery stores. Basic hygiene items like soap, tooth brushes and razors were also distributed. The items were packaged in Lakers reusable canvas bags which the clients can bring back to the facility on future visits to reduce their use of harmful single-use plastic bags.
At Lakers Team Up events, the Lakers organization partners with local and national non-profit organizations to serve the Los Angeles community as part of the teamís continuing drive to be champions on the court and in the community. Lakers Team Up events take place on days in which the Lakers were scheduled to play home games at STAPLES Center, as well as additional dates throughout the year. So far in 2011, the Lakers have teamed up with Volunteers of America, Heal the Bay, US Vets and Jewish Family Services. Check out lakers.com to read about future Lakers Team Up events.
