The Los Angeles Lakers organization has long supported the American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization that provides relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. In response to devastating natural disasters such as the Southern California wildfires and Hurricane Katrina, the Lakers organization has made several sizable contributions to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to provide immediate assistance to those in need.

During the 2009 preseason, the Lakers provided local American Red Cross chapters with complimentary tickets for their volunteers and the opportunity to collect donations and distribute information. In exchange for a $10 donation, fans received a 2009 NBA Champions Lakers team photo, a Laker Girls photo and a 2009-10 Lakers schedule.

The Lakers and the American Red Cross would like to thank the hundreds of fans who stopped by to donate or receive vital information on emergency preparedness and relief, blood drives, health services and first aid training programs. Nearly $3,300 in donations was collected, benefitting the Greater Los Angeles, Inland Empire and Orange County chapters.
