On February 15th, 2008, during the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service in New Orleans, Kobe Bryant, along with 2,500 volunteers, participated in various service projects aimed at rebuilding the city. Bryant, along with Chris Duhon of the Chicago Bulls, Jason Kapono of the Toronto Raptors, Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets, Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics, and Amare Stoudemire of the Phoenix Suns helped Habitat for Humanity build a home on the eastern side of the city.

Habitat for Humanity is in its third year of rebuilding in New Orleans. Before the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service, Habitat had built 102 houses. With the help of volunteers, players and celebrities, Habitat worked to construct house No. 103!

“Everybody has to make a contribution and lend a helping hand,” said Bryant, “That’s what we’re here doing.”

The development director for Habitat for Humanity, Jack Bowers, expressed his gratitude to the NBA and the celebrities who volunteered their time to help. "It's extremely important that we continue to receive support from the celebrities, the corporations and the leagues," Bowers said, “The thing that I think we'd like to remind people is, 'Don't forget about us.' This (rebuilding) is not going to happen overnight."
