Lakers In-Arena Auction Raises $1 Million for the Lakers Youth Foundation!
by Edie Gobel |

Since 1996, Los Angeles Lakers fans have helped raise over $1 million for the Lakers Youth Foundation by purchasing memorabilia at our in-arena auctions during Lakers home games.  This is an outstanding achievement and we are excited to continue this effort into the 2007-08 season.

The monies raised through these auctions support initiatives such as the Lakers Read To Achieve program and the Junior Lakers Youth Basketball program, as well as to help fund grants for various youth organizations in the Los Angeles area.  The Lakers Youth Foundation strives to support local non-profits that are dedicated to improving the quality of life in our community.  The Foundation utilizes its resources to provide Los Angeles youth with educational, athletic, and recreational opportunities.

At every Lakers home game, on the main concourse across from aisle 12 and next to Guest Link services, fans are invited to bid on one-of-a-kind Lakers memorabilia.  The auction opens to silent bidding through the first and second quarters.  Just before the end of half time, the bidding goes live and fans gather for a chance to purchase their favorite item of the night.

The auction features exciting Lakers items like team signed basketballs from current and past years, authentic jerseys, framed game worn basketball shoes and unique items like a framed poster autographed by Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Kobe Bryant.  The auction also features memorabilia from former players and members of other teams around the league.

These auctions would not be successful without the generosity of our loyal fans.  We would like to offer a sincere “thank you” to those fans that have helped us reach this $1 million milestone.  We appreciate your support of the Lakers Youth Foundation year after year.
