Lakers Host a Surprise Ice Cream Party for Students

June 6th, 2007

This year, the Los Angeles Lakers “Be a Champion…AND READ” Reading Challenge reached record numbers. Over sixty classrooms reported 100% completion and the Lakers awarded grand prizes to classrooms at two lucky schools.

On June 6th, two classrooms at Holmes Elementary School in Los Angeles received one of the grand prizes, a surprise ice cream party with the Laker Girls! The third graders enjoyed ice cream sundaes made especially for them by Laker Girls, Jenna, Kristin, Tiffany, and Leslie. Kids got to choose from a variety of toppings, from chocolate chips to sprinkles to caramel. The children had so much fun building their sundaes, some even came back for seconds!

As the children enjoyed their ice cream, the girls answered questions about their job as a Los Angeles Lakers Girl and their experience dancing for such an exciting team. To conclude the party, the Laker Girls passed out signed team photos to all the students and teachers.

A second grand prize was awarded to the students in Steve Feldman’s class at Oswalt Elementary. Every student in this class was given two tickets to attend a Los Angeles Lakers home game in April. Each student could bring a guest and Mr. Feldman received two tickets as well. The class was invited to the home game where the Lakers took on the Seattle Supersonics, and won, 119-98!
