Here is a by-the-numbers look at the Lakers’ 104-103 loss to the Charlotte Hornets.

Time left when L.A. tied the game at 84. From there, Charlotte went on a 14-8 run to take a six-point lead with one minute remaining. The Lakers made a late push, but Jeremy Lin’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer still left them one point shy of overtime.

Points scored by Lin. The first-year Laker shot 9-for-16 from the field and 3-for-4 on triples to record his second-highest scoring output in purple and gold. Lin, who also pitched in eight assists and six rebounds, was L.A.’s leader in the final period, when he dropped 13 of his points.

“Right now I’m feeling pretty good, and the team is playing in a way that is very helpful for me,” Lin said. “And Coach (Byron Scott) is letting me go a little more. I’m trying to stay aggressive. I’m trying to find my rhythm and get to the basket.”

“In the third quarter, we just got off to a terrible start,” head coach Byron Scott said. “I didn’t think we came out of the locker room ready to go. … The third quarter basically killed us. The first five or six minutes, we let ourselves get down (by) double digits, and then it’s an uphill battle the rest of the game.”

Assists for the Hornets. Charlotte had an assist on more than three-fourths of its 39 baskets. Mo Williams led the home team’s passing frenzy, as he tied his season-high with 13 dimes, while also dishing out four secondary assists.

Points scored by the Hornets’ starters. Each member of the Charlotte’s starting five finished in double figures, including Al Jefferson and Gerald Henderson, who had 21 points apiece. Three Hornets also notched double-doubles: Jefferson (16 rebounds), Williams (20 points) and Cody Zeller (10 points, 11 rebounds). Meanwhile, Carlos Boozer (15 points, 11 rebounds) had L.A.’s only double-double.
