Postgame Numbers: Lakers at Pelicans (1/21/15)

Here is a by-the-numbers look at the Lakers’ 96-80 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

10
Assists from Eric Gordon. The seven-year veteran missed his career high by just one assist, dishing out his most since Nov. 11, 2010 when he was still playing for the Los Angeles Clippers. Gordon, who dropped four dimes in the fourth quarter alone, also handed out two free throw assists with usual starting point guard Jrue Holiday sidelined due to a stress reaction in his right leg.

Points scored by L.A. in the fourth quarter. Despite keeping the score within one point through three periods, the Lakers fell apart in the final frame, shooting just 4-for-20 from the field and 1-for-7 on 3-pointers. The Pelicans, meanwhile, had little issue keeping the scoreboard going, as they went 11-for-23 to outscore L.A. by 15 fourth-quarter points.

“We didn’t attack the rim like we attacked it in the first half,” head coach Byron Scott said. “They were the aggressor, and I thought we just got passive. And then we turned the ball over way too many times again tonight. That seems to be a pattern in our last three or four games. We gotta find a way to fix that.”

15
Double-doubles recorded by Jordan Hill this season. The six-year veteran tied his career-high for double-doubles in a season with 39 games still left on the schedule. Hill led the Lakers with 15 points, while grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds — five of which were on the offensive glass. Hill made the most of his opportunities on the boards, as he grabbed 83.3 percent of his 18 rebound chances.

Points scored by the Lakers in the paint. L.A. shot just 13-for-34 in this area, including a paltry 4-for-16 in the second half against the team that allows the third-most points in the paint. On the other hand, the Pelicans were able to score consistently in the paint where they poured in 48 points on 24-for-46 shooting. Tyreke Evans, one of the league’s best slashers, led the way for New Orleans with 14 paint points.

29
Points scored by Anthony Davis. The 21-year-old tormented the Lakers in the second half when he scored 20 points on an 8-for-11 clip. Davis also collected eight rebounds and three steals, while boosting his league-leading block average (2.9) with four swats.
