Second Quarter Run Propels Knicks Over Cavs
LAS VEGAS, NV, July 7, 2006 -- The New York Knicks beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 95-71, behind a 19-0 second quarter run that broke the game open for the Knicks. The Knicks held the Cavaliers without a field goal for over eight minutes in the second quarter as they went from trailing 24-32 to a 43-32 advantage.
The Knicks three first-round draft picks from last season combined for 62 of the 95 Knicks points. Nate Robinson led the Knicks in scoring with a game-high 23 points (5-11 FG, 10-13 FT), David Lee chipped in 20 points (7-8 FG, 6-6 FT) and eight rebounds, while Channing Frye added 19 points (8-17 FG) and five rebounds. Rookie Renaldo Balkman had six points (2-3 FG) and four rebounds in his Knick debut before leaving the game at the 6:30 mark of the third quarter after rolling his left ankle. Sasha Pavlovic led the Cavaliers in scoring with 20 points (6-16 FG, 7-10 FT). Sharrod Ford had 18 points (5-11 FG) and eight rebounds, while Martynas Andriuskevivius pitched in 10 points (3-6 FG). The Knicks finished the game shooting 49 percent (31-63 FG), while the Cavs shot 43 percent (31-63 FG). The Knicks forced the Cavs into 15 turnovers, resulting in a 22-5 advantage in points off of turnovers. New York takes on the Phoenix Suns tomorrow at 8 p.m., while Cleveland battles the Houston Rockets tomorrow at 6 p.m.
