Preview: Melo, Hayward Square Off in Knicks-Jazz Rematch

Game Info:

New York Knicks (21-22) vs. Utah Jazz (18-23)

Madison Square Garden (7:30 p.m.)

TV: MSG, Radio: ESPN NY 98.7

Knicks Report:

It took two overtime periods, but the Knicks were able to outlast the Sixers, 119-113, on Monday at Madison Square Garden. Derek Fisher's club built an 18-point lead, but Philadelphia stormed back by spreading the floor, sharing the ball and letting fly from downtown.

Carmelo Anthony's clutch 3-pointer in the final seconds of regulation and 25 points from Arron Afflalo were key to securing the victory, especially with Kristaps Porzingis' foot injury leaving them shorthanded.

News and Notes:

  • UPDATE: Porzingis and Seraphin are both available to play. Thomas is out, and will be evaluated by team doctors tonight. Fisher said the team will feature the usual starting lineup.
  • Porzingis (sore right foot), Kevin Seraphin (bruised right rib), and Lance Thomas (sore left knee) are all questionable for tonight's game. Stay tuned for updates throughout the day.
  • Gordon Hayward drained six 3s to lead Utah to a 106-85 win over the Knicks on December 9th. The Jazz wing is leading the team in scoring (19.6 points per game) and is one of only two to play in all 41 games this season.
  • Utah has battled injuries all year, starting with point guard Dante Exum's ACL tear this summer. Elite defensive center Rudy Gobert missed 20 games with a knee injury, Derrick Favors has been battling back spasms, and Alec Burks is now out with an ankle injury. Quin Snyder's team is hanging onto the eighth playoff spot, though, thanks to consistent effort from night to night and a sound approach that requires buy in from the entire roster.
  • Rookie Trey Lyles seized the opportunity created by frontcourt injuries, carving out a spot in the rotation by averaging 9.6 points, 6.4 rebounds over his last 13 games. He's shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 47 percent from 3 during that span.
