Knicks Acquire Moochie Norris

NEW YORK, December 30, 2003 – New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball Operations Isiah Thomas announced today that guard Moochie Norris and forward/center John Amaechi have been acquired for forward Clarence Weatherspoon. Per NBA rules, the trade is contingent on all players passing their physicals. Michael Doleac has been placed on the Injured List with lower back spasms and Michael Sweetney has been placed on the Injured List with left patella tendinitis.

Norris, 6-1, 175-pounds, has career averages of 6.2 points and 3.5 assists in 296 games for Seattle, Vancouver and Houston. The Washington, D.C.-native currently has the second-longest active playing streak of 304 straight games behind New York’s Shandon Anderson(531).

The six-year NBA veteran has been averaging 2.7 points and 1.6 assists in 30 bench appearances for the Houston Rockets. He recorded season-high of eight points and 24 minutes at Chicago on Nov. 3.

Weatherspoon, 6-7, 270-pounds, had averaged 3.6 points and 5.1 minutes in 15 games. The 11-year NBA veteran, was originally signed as a free agent on Jul. 20, 2001 by New York and has spent the last two-plus seasons with the Knicks averaging 7.2 points and 7.4 rebounds in 150 games.

The active roster stands at 11, with three on the Injured List.
