It’s a good thing Jordan Hill was a pitcher prior to picking up organized basketball during his freshman year of high school.

Hill, the 6-foot-10 forward who was selected eighth overall by New York in last Thursday’s NBA Draft, made his first public appearance as a Knick Friday when he tossed out the first pitch during the Mets-Yankees matchup at Citi Field. It was just one of the several highlights of a very eventful day.

“It was exciting” Hill said. “I was ready for it, so it felt good.”

Hill was joined at the game by fellow rookie Toney Douglas, the 29th pick of the draft, and together they received a very warm welcome from the thousands of New Yorkers in attendance.

“They were cheering loud,” Hill said. “I don’t know what happened at the draft, but at the Mets game they were cheering loud.”

Still wearing their authentic Mets jerseys, the rookies then made their way to Madison Square Garden to catch the second half of the Liberty game. They sat courtside next to Allan Houston and teammates Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari as they watched their first-ever WNBA game.

“It was a very unique experience,” said Douglas, who is looking forward to playing at the Garden for the first time next fall.

“I never played here before in my life and I’ve always wanted to play here,” he added. “And it’s funny because the Knicks are my team now.”

Hill’s only experience as a player at MSG came during his freshman year at Arizona. He played just four minutes and tallied a block against Louisville.
