Channing Frye & Steve Francis Traded To Portland
Knicks Acquire Randolph, Dickau and Jones

NEW YORK, June 28, 2007 -- New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball Operations and Head Coach Isiah Thomas announced today that forward Zach Randolph and guards Fred Jones and Dan Dickau have been acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for forward Channing Frye and guard Steve Francis. In addition, the Knicks acquired the draft rights to Demetris Nichols from Portland for a 2008 second round draft pick.

Randolph, 6-9, 258-pounds, has appeared in 387 career games for the Portland Trail Blazers over the past six seasons to average 16.0 points and 7.7 rebounds. During the 2006-07 season, Randolph averaged a career-high 23.6 points per game, which ranked 12th in the league, and also averaged 10.1 rebounds in 68 games played (67 starts). The 25-year-old Marion, IN native was originally selected by Portland after his freshman season out of Michigan State University in the first round (19th pick overall) of the 2001 NBA Draft.

Randolph was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player following the 2003-04 season in which he averaged 20.1 points and a career-high 10.5 rebounds per game. He also led Portland in both points and rebounds over the last four seasons and was the only player in the league last year to average at least 23 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Dickau, 6-0, 181-pounds, averaged 3.3 points and 1.4 assists in 50 games for Portland. A five-year NBA veteran, the Portland, OR native has averaged 6.0 points and 2.5 assists in 233 career games for six NBA teams.

Jones, averaged 6.5 points and 1.7 rebounds in 63 games for Portland and Toronto last season. A five-year NBA veteran, the Malvern, AR native has averaged 7.5 points and 2.1 assists in 308 career games for three NBA teams.

Nichols, 6-8, 216-pounds, averaged a Big East-leading 18.9 points and 5.4 rebounds for Syracuse University as a senior.

Frye, 6-11, 245-pounds, was originally selected in the first round (eighth pick overall) of the 2005 NBA Draft by New York, was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team and averaged 10.8 points in 137 games over two seasons. Last season, the White Plains, NY native averaged 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in 72 games.

Francis, 6-3, 195-pounds, was originally acquired on Feb. 22, 2006 from the Orlando Magic. Over two seasons, the Washington, D.C. native averaged 11.1 points and 3.7 assists in 68 games. Last season, over 44 games, he averaged 11.3 points and 3.9 assists.
