Player Workouts: Epperson And Walker Willing To Do Whatever It Takes

June 21, 2006 -- Rodney Epperson and Walker Russell both have strong New York ties. Epperson, a willowy 6-8 forward from Mountain State, had himself a cup of tea at St. John’s where “I scored 26 points one night and the next day I was packing” due to some transcript irregularities from junior college. Brief as his stay may have been, one thing became clear: Epperson, a natural scorer with a rare nose for the basket, can PLAY.“That’s what keeps me going,” the personable Epperson flashes a smile after his workout at the Knick Westchester Training Center.

Player Workouts: Anderson Takes His Best Shot

June 20, 2006 -- Rashad Anderson received his Knicks workout heads-up from UConn teammate and best-friend “Darth Vader”, a. k. a. Denham Brown who worked out at the team’s Westchester Training Facility the day before. “He called me and told me to be ready to work hard -- and to be ready for anything,” related Anderson. “Fortunately, life has already taught me that.”

Player Workouts: Brown and Batista Make Up the Difference

June 19, 2006 -- At this point, UConn tail gunner Denham Brown finds the grueling trail of NBA workouts “more exhausting than fun. Flying into a new city every day, it really wears on you, it’s something else,” he says. Still, the workouts served him well. “I hear I’m moving up, from the second round to somewhere into the 20-s,” he smiles. ”So, yes, you could say I love them. Bring them on.”Nor is it lost on the personable Canadian that “the 20-s” is where the Knicks reside this year, twice over in fact. “Playing in the Big East, you can’t help but be a Knicks fan,” he says. ”I mean they’re on TV all the time.

Player Workouts: Millsap Ready to Get It

June 16, 2006 --
Paul Millsap plays with a major league chip on his shoulder. “Many people tend to look down on me,” he says. “I never got as much recognition as I should have. I’m small for my position and I come from a smaller school. So I always feel that I’ve got something to prove -- and I put that feeling to good use.” To say the least; Millsap, a 6-8 power forward from Louisiana Tech, has led the nation in rebounding the past three years in succession.

Player Workouts: Keydren Clark Works It Out

June 15, 2006 -- Standing at 5-9 on your taller days, it’s easy enough to get lost among the giants on the basketball floor. Yet St. Peter’s guard Keydren Clark not only caught some eyes at last week’s Orlando NBA Pre-draft Camp -- he caught some eyes that counted. "Larry Brown told my agent he enjoyed what he saw and wanted to see more of me,” a tired but elated Clark relates after his Knicks workout at the team’s Madison Square Garden Training Center. “That’s how I got here. Needless to say, too be noticed by Coach Brown, I’m thrilled.”

Player Workouts: Donnie Living The Dream

June 14, 2006 -- Providence point guard Donnie McGrath is not only a four-year Big East star but “has grown up 15 minutes from here in Katonah, New York,” he smiles after his NBA Draft workout for the Knicks at the Madison Square Garden Training Center in Greenburgh. ”Needless to say, I’ve been one crazy mad Knicks fan all my life. My whole family is. So just being able to work out here, for Coach (Larry) Brown and (President, Basketball Operations) Isiah Thomas, it’s been an unbelievable honor.”

Player Workouts: The Spartan Comes To Town

June 2, 2006 -- Few players elicit views as divergent as Michigan State center/forward Paul Davis. Ever since the 6-11 insider was tagged as “the potentially next great big guy in the game” two years ago during his sophomore season, how close he’s gotten to that plateau -- or if he’ll ever get there -- has remained the source of much fierce debate.

Player Workouts: The Son Also Rises

May 30, 2006 -- Pre-Draft workouts for the Knicks continued on Wednesday at the MSG Training Facility in Greenburgh as Stanford guard Dan Grunfeld and Hartford forward Kenny Adeleke were among the players being scrutinized. As the son of former Knicks GM Ernie Grunfeld, Dan got to witness New York player workouts in his youth, while Adeleke, a native of Jamaica, Queens, also followed the Knicks closely growing up.

Player Workouts: Tuesday's With Mardy

May 30, 2006 -- Shot blocking, a Knicks need of late, is probably THE most underrated factor in hoops. “It can completely change the flavor and nature of a basketball game,” UConn center-forward Josh Boone said following his workout on Tuesday at the team’s Madison Square Garden Training Center in Greenburgh, NY.

Hustling in Greenburgh- Friday Workouts

May 26, 2006 -- Allan Ray, who is superbly quick and athletic, might be available when the Knicks will make their selections on draft day. “Yeah, I hear late first (round), early second,” he smiled. “But, to be honest with you, I’m trying very much NOT to pay attention to that. I’ve got to concentrate at the task at hand.” Still, after growing up as an enormous Knicks fan in the Bronx -- “I’ve got my heart broken a lot of times against Michael Jordan and the Bulls,” he says -- playing here would be special. “I would love to play here in front of my friends and family. That would be totally awesome,” Ray said.

Prospects Workout for Knicks

How big a deal is doing a pre-draft workout for the New York Knicks? “It’s big,” a tired but still smiling Rutgers guard Quincy Douby nods for emphasis. “It was my first workout and I’m telling you, last night I could not go to sleep. Every half an hour, every hour, I’d wake up looking at the clock. Is it time yet?” Yes, for players such as Douby -- who worked out for the Knicks with fellow back-court-men Curtis Stinson (Iowa State), Maurice Ager (Michigan State), and Terrance Kinsey (South Carolina) -- the time is very much NOW. The draft is a scant month away -- and Stinson and Douby, in particular, still have a lot to prove.

Knicks Begin Player Workouts

If the playoffs-sized media throng was searching for hints and hidden meanings in the New York Knicks’ first NBA Draft player-workouts…well, the search is still on. The team brought in an extra-physical workhorse-forward (Indiana’s Marco Killingsworth), a power-guy with local ties (Kelly Whitney from Seton Hall), an all-around swing-man from Tobacco Road (6-6 David Noel), and a mystery-center from Brazil (6-11 Leonardo di Pacce Dos Santos).
