Knicks Draft Wilson Chandler
Chandler, 6-8, 230-pounds, was an early entry candidate for the 2007 NBA Draft having declared eligible following his sophomore season at DePaul. The 20-year-old, Benton Harbor, MI-native averaged 12.9 points and 7.1 rebounds during his two years with the Blue Demons and finished his collegiate career ranked 10th on the school’s all-time list for career blocked shots.
“Wilson is a versatile forward who can guard multiple positions and will fit in well with our basketball team,” Knicks President of Basketball Operations and Head Coach Isiah Thomas said. “Coupled with our late season signing of Randolph Morris, we feel like we have added two players from the college ranks who will evolve into good players in our league.”
Chandler averaged 14.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 34 games last season at DePaul and earned Second Team All-Big East Conference honors. As a freshman in 2005-06, Chandler averaged 10.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game and was a unanimous selection to the Big East All-Rookie Team.
Chandler posted 11 career point-rebound double-doubles, eight of which came during his sophomore campaign. He tied a career-high with 26 points in the first round of the 2007 Postseason NIT versus Hofstra on Mar. 14. Chandler joins swingman Quentin Richardson and Assistant Coach Mark Aguirre as current members of the Knicks organization that played their collegiate ball at DePaul.
