2005 NBA Draft: In the 2005 NBA Draft at the Theater at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, June 28, the New York Knicks will have two first-round selections and one second-round selection…With a final record of 33-49 to finish the 2004-05 season, the Knicks were slotted into the eighth spot (tie-broken by Toronto) prior to the NBA Draft Lottery on May 24…With only a 3.5-percent chance of getting the first overall pick, New York in fact stayed in that eighth spot…On Feb. 24, 2005, the Knicks acquired forward Malik Rose, Phoenix’s 2005 first-round draft pick and San Antonio’s 2006 first-round draft pick from the Spurs in exchange for center Nazr Mohammed…With Phoenix finishing at a league-best 62-20, the Knicks will have the last pick in the first round (No. 30)…the Knicks’ second-round draft pick (No. 37) was traded to the Atlanta Hawks on Feb. 15, 2004 in a trade involving the three-team deal for Tim Thomas and Mohammed (the L.A. Lakers now own the pick)…The Knicks acquired the 54th overall pick in the draft from Houston on Jun. 9, 2003 for the release of Jeff Van Gundy…New York is one of five team in the 2005 NBA Draft with more than one first-round selection.

How The Knicks Were Built: Since Isiah Thomas was named President of Basketball Operations of the Knicks on Dec. 22, 2003, the Knicks have made numerous transactions to make the team look the way it currently does…signings, draft picks, and trades have helped the team immediately and for the future…Along with three draft picks in the 2005 NBA Draft, they also own two conditional first-round draft selections in 2006…The following is a look at how the current team was built:
Isiah At The Draft: Isiah Thomas has had his share of success at the NBA Draft as a leader of NBA franchises…Along with picking Knicks forward Trevor Ariza in the second round as the 43rd pick in last year’s draft, Thomas was involved in three drafts at Toronto as the Raptors Part Owner and Executive Vice President from 1995 through 1997…In 1995, he selected the eventual NBA Rookie of Year Damon Stoudamire with the No. 7 pick, Marcus Camby with the second overall pick in 1996 and in 1997, selected Tracy McGrady at No. 9.

The Youth Movement: The average age of the 2004-05 Knicks final roster at the end of the season was just 27 years, nine months and 14 days…It was the youngest squad since the 1989-90 season…With second-year forward Michael Sweetney and rookie forward Trevor Ariza both making the Opening Night roster, the 2004-05 season marked the first time since the opening of 1992-93 that the Knicks had players from consecutive drafts on the team at the same time (Hubert Davis, Greg Anthony)...The last time the Knicks had two frontline players from two consecutive drafts came during 1990-91, when rookie forward Jerrod Mustaf (1990) teamed with forward Brian Quinnett (1989)…Ariza and Jackie Butler both saw time on the floor this past season and now hold the distinction of becoming the two youngest players in team history…Both surpassed Carl Braun, who was 20 years, one month and 19 days old when he made his NBA debut on Nov. 13, 1947 against Washington…the following is a look of the team’s youngest and oldest players over the past 45 years:
