Knicks & Garden of Dreams Host Thanksgiving Dinner

The New York Knicks and Garden of Dreams Foundation teamed up to host a special Thanksgiving Dinner for 165 children from Garden of Dreams partner organization, Children’s Village on November 21, 2013. Knicks head coach Mike Woodson, along with his coaching staff and current Knicks players Cole Aldrich, Toure’ Murry and Tim Hardaway, Jr. were joined by Knicks alumnus John Starks, Liberty alumnus Kym Hampton and Liberty guard/forward Essence Carson to kick off the holiday season by helping to serve dinner and spend time with the at-risk youth at the event. The menu included a traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes and macaroni and cheese and was finished off with delicious pumpkin and apple pie!

“We are just showing them that we are more than basketball players. We care about the community and we care about the people in it as well,” said Hardaway. “We're doing whatever we can to give back and put a smile on kids' faces.”

After serving dinner, Knicks players, coaches and alumni joined the children at their tables to enjoy the meal and get to know each other. The fun continued as Coach Woodson conversed with young basketball players looking for pointers on their game and Tim Hardaway Jr. signed autographs and took photos. At the same time, Cole Aldrich and Toure’ Murry joined in on the photo booth! As for holiday gifts, each child received personalized posters of their names created by Chinese name artists and Knicks goodies to remember the special Thanksgiving celebration.
