QUOTE OF THE DAY – Isiah Thomas:
"Great competitor, ultimate warrior and even better person. The thing that comes to mind about him is I always see his face dripping with sweat because every time he stepped on the court, he gave you everything he had."
Patrick is the Knicks’ all-time career Playoff leader in virtually every category, including games played (135), minutes (5,140), rebounds (1,413), blocks (299) and total points (2,787)... Ewing appeared in 13 post-seasons as a Knick, by far and away a club record. . His 303 career Playoff blocks (including four for Orlando in 2002) are fourth on the all-time NBA list.
QUOTE OF THE DAY – Reggie Miller:
"Whenever you played the Knicks, it wasn't just a game, it was a test of will, stamina and mental toughness and that's because of Patrick Ewing. He brought a competitive edge to the court where you knew there were no nights off for Pat and,as a result, when you beat the Knicks, you knew you earned it because he made you earn it."
Patrick is the all-time career Knicks leader in virtually every category, including games played (1,039), minutes (37,586), rebounds (10,759), blocks (2,758), steals (1,061) and total points (23,665)... QUOTE OF THE DAY -- Miami Heat Center Alonzo Mourning:
“He was my mentor. I looked up to his style of play, his aggressiveness, the way he blocked shots and the way he rebounded.”
May 22, 1994 – Ewing delivers in crunch time, recovering from a scoreless first half to spearhead the Knicks’ Game Seven victory over the Chicago Bulls in the East Semis at the Garden, ending the Bulls’ three-year reign as NBA Champions... Patrick winds up with 18 points (all in the second half), 17 rebounds and six assists as the Knicks win, 87-77... He authors perhaps the game’s most critical shot, a three-point bomb off the glass that gives the Knicks a 10-point lead with six minutes left.
QUOTE OF THE DAY -- Rolando Blackman:
“He had a very dominant career. The important factor here is that you had a great basketball player that was here within the New York City midst. If you got a chance to play with this team, you got to experience a unique individual who was a great and dominant player, when he played. The only problem is that he didn’t come away with a championship. That is the only blemish, if you can call it that. He is among the best centers to ever play.”
Patrick owns Knicks franchise records for most consecutive double-figure scoring games (214 from Jan 16, 1989—Nov 12, 1991), consecutive 20+ scoring games (28 in 1989-90) and consecutive 30+ scoring games (five in 1994-95, a record he shares with Bernard King).
QUOTE OF THE DAY -- Joe Dumars:
“Patrick Ewing represented the ultimate big man for years in this league and should go down as not only one of the greatest big men of all-time, but as the greatest Knick ever."
May 14,1992 – In one of the guttiest performances in club history, Patrick shakes off the effects of a badly sprained left ankle to lead the Knicks to a 100-86 win-or-go-home triumph in Game Six of the East Semis against Chicago at the Garden... After suffering the injury in the third quarter, Ewing returns to score 11 fourth-quarter points to lead the Knicks to victory... He finishes with 27 points, eight rebounds and three blocks, prompting MSG’s Marv Albert to say: “We are seeing a Willis Reed-type performance from Patrick Ewing”.
QUOTE OF THE DAY -- Allan Houston:
“My impression as an outsider was like everybody else’s: Patrick’s supposed to be aloof, an introvert. Then you get here as a teammate and you find out what he’s all about. You see the leadership, the work ethic. He’s an ideal role model for a young player. You just watch him, and it makes you want to follow his example. In a way, he is the Knicks. He’s what this organization is all about”
1989-90-- Patrick authors his greatest statistical season, one of the top single-season performances in Knicks history... Ewing is the only player to rank among the NBA Top Six in scoring (career-high 28.6 ppg), rebounding (10.9 rpg), blocks (3.99 bpg) and shooting (.551), earning first-team All-NBA honors. . .He establishes still-standing club records for total points (2,347), blocks (327) and FGM (922).
