The New York Rollin’ Knicks are part of the Eastern Wheelchair Basketball Conference (E.W.B.C.) of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (N.W.B.A.).
The New York Rollin’ Knicks are one of twenty-one teams already sponsored by National Basketball Association teams such as the Utah Jazz, Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns. Currently, there are over 200 wheelchair basketball teams across the country in the N.W.B.A and six in the E.W.B.C.
The New York Rollin’ Knicks practice twice a week, average sixty (60) scheduled home and away, league and non-league games as well as tournaments in such cities as Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Detroit, Philadelphia, Boston, Virginia Beach, Toronto and Washington, D.C. during the season.
The NYRK open up their home site to all wheelchair basketball players free of charge during the school year after the EWBC season has completed in February. During the summer months, when its home site is closed, the NYRK rent a gym and open it up again for any wheelchair basketball player to use, free of charge. Lastly, during the summer, the NYRK have access to Madison Square Garden on several occasions and invite players from the league to play in “The World’s Most Famous Arena”.
Founded by David Snowden, Jr., the Director of Disabled Services for Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall, The NYRK are a testament to the true reaches of basketball, sportsmanship, determination and commitment. Since its inception in 1998, the New York Rollin’ Knicks have held many exhibition games at Madison Square Garden, Nassau Coliseum, Hartford Civic Center, St. John’s University as well as many other venues and in front of as many as 20,000 people.
