Knicks Crown New York City's Top Teen Poet on Broadway
On February 18th the Knicks Poetry Slam Program made history by taking the best teen poets in the tri-State to Broadway. The New York Knicks and partner Urban Word NYC hosted the 6th annual Knicks Poetry Slam live at the New Amsterdam Theatre. This year’s finals featured 13 talented poets and provided more than $350,000 in scholarships, grants and prizes to all participants and winners.
Current Knicks players Chris Duhon and Jonathan Bender, along with Knicks alumni Larry Johnson and Malik Rose came out to support the students. The show was hosted by Michael Ellison of HBO’s Def Poetry.
In addition, the Knicks announced a new partner. Adelphi University joined the University of Wisconsin and Mercy College as the third academic institution to donate a full tuition four-year scholarship to the program.
